It’s safe to say the festive cheer this year hasn’t been well…very cheer-y. At least we are all out of that 4 week long November lockdown and can finally hit the shops to create some buzz about being able to spend Christmas with our loved ones this year.
Of course, a lot of events had to be cancelled this year due to social distancing guidelines but not everything…
Here are some local events that are still happening to boost your Christmas spirit.
Lightopia (Heaton Park)
Feast your eyes on spectacular light displays with captivating sculptures that each tell a story of their very own. Lightopia will be taking place at Heaton Park from 3rd Dec to 10th Jan, book your tickets here.
The event is described as “a festive spectacle of illumination” and their new route provides a safe environment for visitors to enjoy with friends and family.
Light Switch-On (Virtual)
Sadly, the light switch-on will not be taking place this year but it can still be watched from the comfort of your home.
This year, as a token of gratitude, Manchester City Council have organised NHS key workers to switch on the lights and illuminate the city. Visit here for more information and latest updates.
ChristmasCity Drive-In Cinema (Trafford)
The same team behind the massively successful ScareFest are back and this time for the Christmas edition. Take the whole family to watch their favourite festive films on the big screen and enjoy an immersive experience with Santa and his elves.

Santa Claus Calls
Chill Factore is sadly closed but they are determined to keep the Christmas spirit alive with their Santa Claus Calls service by letting little ones share their Christmas list with Santa via video call in a virtual grotto!
The dates of the service will span from 5th December to 24th December with each call lasting around 5 minutes. To book and learn more, visit the Chill Factore website.
