Manchester-based Yorkshire spoken word performer Jack Horner, professionally known as Leon the Pig Farmer becomes a published author with the release of a new book.
This is his first compilation of verse and concentrates on his journey through mental health awareness and recovery.
After suffering a breakdown in 2019 and a diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome related to incidents from a decade of service as a soldier in the British army, he turned to writing down his dark thoughts and reciting words that came in his head while he was out walking near his home on Saddleworth Moor as part of his recovery.
“A staccato burst of barely controlled anger that grips you by the throat, Tales so perfectly crafted, they slide into your head. You ponder where you have heard anything as succinct before.“
– Reyt Good Magazine
Many of the verses are centred around his thoughts, experiences, and a commentary of his spiral into the abyss of PTSD. It is a piece of work aimed to help others who suffer with any form of mental health illness and shine a light on the end of the tunnel and that a positive outcome is possible.
Jack already uses his experiences to help others in the form of performance or inspiring talks which are named after this book title. His hopes are to help others and to reach out to those suffering and ex-military who may still be coming to terms with a mental health condition. To that end a percentage of profits from sales of his book will be donated to the local ‘Emmaus’ charity that helps homeless people.
Jack is initially launching the book in his hometown of Mossley but will be taking the book and performance to other venues and locations. Where he will be available to talk to people about his journey and offer a personal insight into his creative methods, performance and content of the book.

“This guy has his own slant on the art, no prompts straight out with it. A true talent with a mind full of gems, compelling.“
