Manchester homeless charity is working with major local developers to deliver a new scheme to combat homelessness in the city.
The charity in question named Embassy launched in 2019, using repurposed tour bus to offer emergency shelter to support vulnerable adults. Since covid, they have reinvented themselves to renting out houses, providing homeless people with their own rooms.
Local developers CAPITAL & CENTRIC and Peel L&P have collaborated with the charity to build a new homelessness housing scheme titled The Embassy Village. The village will provide 40 new permanent homes made out of unused shipping containers located in the heart of the city-centre on a site owned by Peel L&P.
The new scheme will support those affected by homelessness, giving them a place to live and receive the best guidance to get back on their feet. The village will have a ‘Village Hall’, a hub for residents where they’ll receive training and mentorship.
The team of workers and volunteers will provide direct support for at least 6 hours a week to each resident, aiding them to learn important life skills including budgeting, shopping and therapy to cope with previous traumas.
Homelessness has been a major issue for the city for many years and it’s fantastic to see a new initiative that will help support those most vulnerable in our community.
