A member of the Vibe Manchester team, Val Norak, will be taking part in the New Year’s Day 2021 USWIM to raise money for Manchester Mind.
🏊🏼♂️ What do you get when you cross Borat and Wim Hof (aka the Iceman)? A Viking in a YELLOW MANKINI (Manc’ini) swimming in the icy waters of Salford Quays on New Year’s Day of course! 🎯
We’ve seen lots of charities and great initiatives to support those most vulnerable in society during 2020 and entering 2021 is no exception for our team at Vibe Manchester.
On January 1st, team member Val will be taking in the annual NYD swim hosted by USWIM in the Quays to raise money for Manchester Mind. Manchester Mind have been supporting better health for over 30 years who offer their services to the community to help those who are struggling – which is gravely important during these troubling times. We are thrilled to be raising money for such a worthy cause that will benefit our community.
The idea of jumping into freezing water and attempting to swim may strike some as a mild form of torture however, exposing yourself to cold water has some fantastic health benefits including lowering blood pressure, metabolism improvement and boosting immune systems!
A notable advocate for this method or body workout is Dutch athlete, Wim Hof, who owns a number of Guinness World Records including completing a barefoot half-marathon on ice and snow.
Hof now provides classes and video courses to teach people how to be “strong, happy and healthy” following his methodology. Learn more about the science, benefits and read testimonials by visiting his website here.
The NYD swim will be taking place in the morning at Dock 9, MediaCityUK around 11am. Be sure to keep an eye out on our Facebook page for further exciting announcements! We have a target of £1,000 – to donate please visit our Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/vibemanchester
